Nova Scotian Metal Band BLACK MOOR Hospitalized Following Deadly Road Accident

Members of the Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada-based heavy metal band BLACK MOOR (MySpace page) are in the hospital after an auto accident that killed two people.

The group's guitarist, Nick Jones, who was uninjured, told CTV News that he and his bandmates saw the headlights of a car hurtling toward them from the wrong direction on a divided highway seconds before the collision.

"We just screamed and before I knew it, big impact," he said. "We bailed out of the car, everyone except the driver. We screamed his name but he didn't move."

The driver, Sylvain Coderre, who plays drums in BLACK MOOR, suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries in the crash late Monday (June 23) that killed two people in the car that was driving in the wrong direction on the Trans-Canada Highway outside Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada, according to TheCronicleHerald.ca. Donald Gautreau, 47, and Sabrina Arsenault, 16, both of Moncton, died in the crash.

Investigators said they didn't know how Gautreau ended up driving in the wrong direction.

"We're waiting for toxicology results to determine if there was any alcohol involved," RCMP Sgt. Maurice Comeau said, according to TheCronicleHerald.ca. "That's always a possibility. It's the first thing you think of when somebodys driving the wrong way on a four-lane highway, but we don't know for sure. It could be an honest mistake they didn't know they were going the wrong way."

Comeau said Coderre, though, hadn't been drinking.

BLACK MOOR bassist Robert Nickerson is said to have lacerations on his spleen. The group's guitarist/vocalist Eric Hanlin received a minor neck injury. Another passenger is said to have some nerve damage and is undergoing surgery. They are all still in the Moncton hospital, possibly to be transferred to Halifax within days.

The band was making the trip to see the Heavy MTL festival in Montreal as well as to play a show with Montreal's METALIAN.

Hanlin said he was terrified when he saw an injured Coderre in the wrecked vehicle.

"He was bleeding pretty badly and he was stuck in the car," Hanlin told CTV.

A benefit show has been set up at the Halifax Pavilion on July 3. METALIAN is playing at Halifax's Marquee, although it has not been confirmed if they will play the Pavilion show.

BLACK MOOR had been working on its first album prior to the accident and is said to have completed most of the recording process.
