OBITUARY To Perform At New Jersey's MARCH METAL MELTDOWN VI?

February 16, 2004

Although reunited death metal legends OBITUARY are currently being listed on the event's web site as one of the bands performing at next month's March Metal Meltdown VI festival in Irvington, New Jersey, the group have yet to officially confirm their participation in the event, according to singer John Tardy. "I know DT [a.k.a. drummer Donald Tardy] and I both want to play it but I am not 100% sure about Frank [Watkins, bass] and TP [a.k.a. Trevor Peres, guitar]," John told BLABBERMOUTH.NET earlier today (Feb. 16). "DT is in Canada with ANDREW W.K. and will be back on Saturday [Feb. 21]. He may have talked to [the organizers of March Metal Meltdown] and confirmed...so I am not 100% sure [that we will perform at the festival] but I do want to play it. I will know more when I talk to DT next."

With regards to the possibility of the band playing additional shows besides the already-confirmed appearance at the Sun N' Steel festival in Tampa, Florida early next month, Tardy said, "We are getting lot of offers for other shows but have not committed to anything. We did get ask to play at the Hard Rock Fest, which we really want to do. Right now we really need to get this [new OBITUARY] album done before we start doing to many shows."

On the prospect of OBITUARY premiering new material at the upcoming festival appearances, John said, "[It's looking] doubtful on [us] being ready to play anything new yet... As much as I would love to play a couple of new ones we are just not ready as a band."

As previously reported, OBITUARY's next studio album will likely surface through Roadrunner Records, whose previous contract with the group ("suspended" during the band's years of inactivity) will probably be reinstated to accommodate the upcoming recording sessions.
