OPETH Mainman Comments On Upcoming MELLOTRONEN Performance

February 29, 2008

Swedish metallers OPETH will perform on the 21st anniversary Schizoid Boat March 8-9, 2008 in honor of Mellotronen's birthday. The party will take place over 40 hours on the largest ferry on the Baltic Sea, the Silja Symphony, a 204-meter luxury cruiser equipped with sauna and swimming pool facilities, cabins complete with showers, a shopping galleria, 8-10 bars and restaurants, and apart from the fantastic lineup of bands, there will also be an international music convention in the conference area, which is over 1000 square meters.

The ferry will be leaving at 17:00 on Saturday, March 8, and will be returning to Stockholm 09:30 on Monday, March 10, with a seven-and-half-hour stop in Helsinki, during which a mini film festival will be held on the boat by Klubb Super 8 (for those wishing to remain onboard).

Commented OPETH mainman Mikael Åkerfeldt: "We rehearsed today. Did a cool jazzy re-arrangement of an ol' 'classic.' Gonna be fun! Playing a new song as well. Actually it's my favourite to play in the bunch we're doing that night. We'll play in a big-ass galleria. That will be a first, and probably a last too. We need your support, even though it's a warm up gig in many ways, I can't wait and we'll be 'cocked and loaded.' There's so much else going on… Nathalie, who sings on our new record 'Watershed', will be there performing original songs with Axe and Mendez among others. Emma Nordenstam will be there. Club Super 8 will be there…. great! They specialize in forgotten artifacts from the Swedish underground film scene. Lots of B-movies, soft porn, thrillers and all sorts of stuff! Lovely! Many of my friends are coming, Steven Wilson is coming (not playing…I think). I think it's going to be like a two day party of gigantic measures. I can't wait! Hope you can come too guys! Seriously!"
