Original AC/DC Singer Talks About Men Who Succeeded Him
May 17, 2010Johnny Wilson of Jarrow & Hebburn Gazette conducted an interview with original AC/DC frontman Dave Evans ahead of the singer's U.K. headlining tour. When asked about his thoughts on the men who succeeded him — Bon Scott, then, after Bon was killed by alcoholic poisoning in 1980, Brian Johnson — Evans responded, "Bon always had a cheeky grin and loved to clown around. Everyone liked him. He was a real character, and no doubt wrote some of the best rock classics of all time with AC/DC. I have never met Brian, but the fans who have tell me he is a great fellow. He had a hard act to follow after Bon's tragic death, but, boy, he really stamped his own trademark on AC/DC. I still love 'You Shook Me All Night Long'."
Is there a tiny part of him that wished he was still on stage with the Youngs?
"Anyone would love to have enjoyed the enormous success of any band like AC/DC, but the kudos goes to those who wrote and performed the classic hit songs after me," he said.

Dave Evans, who recently signed a U.K.-exclusive deal with Rocksector Records to release his latest album, "Judgement Day", will embark on a U.K. tour this week. A U.K. version of Evans' band, THE BADDASSES, has been formed for this tour, featuring Chris Appleton (guitar) and Martin McNee (drums) from FURY UK and Marshall Gill (guitar) from NEW MODEL ARMY. The lineup is completed by Leon Gill (bass) from NEW UNION. These shows will feature material from "Judgement Day" plus some AC/DC classics from both Dave's era in the band and respectfully the Bon Scott era. The main support band on the tour is Cumbrian rockers FALLING RED who just released their debut album, "Shake The Faith", also on Rocksector Records.
"Judgement Day" was released in the U.K. on April 26 via Rocksector Records. The follow-up to 2003's "Sinner", which was made available in Australia in July 2008 through MGM, was recorded in Brisbane, Australia with producer Mark Tinson and features 10 tracks, including a cover of "House of the Rising Sun". The first single was "We Don't Dance to Your Song".
Evans was a member of AC/DC from the band's inception in 1973 until 1974. Following his departure from AC/DC, Dave Evans formed the wild hedonistic rock band RABBIT, Melbourne '80s rock outfit DAVE EVANS AND THUNDER DOWN UNDER, and lastly DAVE EVANS AND HOT COCKEREL. Dave Evans has also toured as a solo act, and in 2004 released his current album, "Sinner", on Germany's Cultural Minority record label. In 2005, Dave Evans toured across Holland, Germany and Switzerland with the renowned southern rock band MOLLY HATCHET.
