OTEP Frontwoman Reveals Power Of Poetry

October 1, 2007

Otep Shamaya, outspoken frontwoman of Los Angeles-based metal quartet OTEP, has written a guest blog for Headbanger's Blog expressing her obsession with poetry and the connection between finely honed words and bludgeoning rock. Check it out at this location.

OTEP is currently gearing up for the long-awaited release of the band's new album, "The_Ascension" on October 30 via Koch Records, and an upcoming tour with HELLYEAH and BLOODSIMPLE, also beginning on October 30 at The Fillmore in Detroit.

For their new album, OTEP called on Dave Fortman (MUDVAYNE, EVANESCENCE) to produce, and also enlisted Grammy-nominated guitarist Greg Tribbett (MUDVAYNE, HELLYEAH) to co-write three songs. To date, OTEP has sold over 400,000 units.

With the release of "The_Ascension", their third full-length outing, the band challenged themselves to avoid clichés and classifications and find a new landscape of sound and vision. On "The_Ascension" OTEP is both inciteful and insightful, with songs ranging from the aggro call to arms of "Confrontation" to the vulnerable "Perfectly Flawed".
