Owner Of Club Where DIMEBAG Was Murdered Says No Decision Has Been Made About Reopening

December 29, 2004

Columbus, Ohio radio station The Blitz WBZX 99.7 FM aired an interview with Alrosa Villa owner Rick Cautela on Tuesday (Dec. 28) in which Rick spoke about the future of the club where DAMAGEPLAN/ex-PANTERA guitarist "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott and three other people were murdered on Dec. 8. An MP3 file containing the seven-minute interview can be downloaded at this location.

When asked what the future holds for the Alrosa Villa, Cautela responded, "Right now I'm concentrating on shows that were booked previously and trying to make sure everybody gets refunds from the DAMAGEPLAN show, from other concerts that were booked through the month of December. I wanna get that business taken care of first.

"I spoke to Mark Chatfield last night, from ROSIE. He's a longtime friend, a band that used to play the Alrosa years ago, in the old days. We had finally talked ROSIE into doing a reunion at the Alrosa on New Year's Eve and we decided together that we would cancel the show.

"I'm not sure what's gonna happen for the future of the Alrosa right now. I just don't know right now. I think about that, then I…

"We know it's not right to open the Alrosa without having a benefit first.

"One minute I think the Alrosa has a future, the next minute I don't feel comfortable about it. I'm just not OK with opening back up.

"I have a lot of employees that I'm thinking about right now. It's Christmas time, they don't have a paycheck coming. They would like for me to open, to do benefits, to have other kind of shows there. They don't wanna quit, they love working there, and they've been there for me. We actually all went to counseling together last week. We sat in a room and we hugged each other and talked about what we were going through, what the families might be going through."
