Ozzy Osbourne may have the top rock song in the country with "Let Me Hear You Scream", but that doesn't mean his new album, "Scream", is blowing the doors off record stores. According to industry web site Hits Daily Double, the just-released album is on track to sell between 65,000 and 70,000 copies in its first week — less than half that of his previous effort, 2007's "Black Rain", which moved 152,000 copies.
The Hits estimate is based on one-day sales reports. The album, Ozzy's 10th studio solo effort, arrived on Tuesday (June 22).
Ozzy plans to tour extensively behind the record, starting with six Ozzfest dates in late August.
The heavy metal icon told The Pulse of Radio that he has no intention of retiring any time soon, but thinks he'll know when that time comes. "I've always said that if the audience diminishes down to one cow and three drunks in a field, I think that I'd be pretty dumb to not go, 'You know what, maybe I should just call it quits, you know,'" he said.
The sales of "Black Rain" were in line with those of the CD before it, 2001's "Down To Earth", which moved 153,000 copies in its first week on shelves. But physical sales of music have plunged in the three years since "Black Rain" came out.
