Painter MARILYN MANSON Rocks At Miami's Art Basel

December 4, 2008

Marilyn Manson's artwork will be exhibited for the first time in the U.S. this month during Art Basel Miami. The exhibition of more than twenty paintings is presented by the Cologne, Germany-based Galerie Brigitte Schenk in cooperation with 101 Exhibit, a new art space in Miami's design district. The exhibit, titled Trismegistus, features Manson's paintings from the past eight years. The show opens tomorrow (Friday, December 5) at 101 NE 40th Street, Miami and runs through February 20, 2009.

According to MiamiHerald.com, Manson showed up at the media preview of Trismegistus at 101 Exhibit Thursday night (December 4). Most, if not all, the works in the collection were reportedly of grisly figures and ghostly, often bloody apparitions.

"I paint people that I think are interesting," Manson said, according to MiamiHerald.com.

Trismegistus is the name of Manson's 2004 painting of a three-headed Jesus, done on an antique embalming table. "That one was during a period in my life where I was feeling a bit hopeless. For me it signifies a resurrection and believing in myself," he said. "It's important to me but technically probably not the best art."
