PEARL JAM Covering VAN HALEN's 'Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love' In Hartford; Video Available

May 17, 2010

Fan-filmed video footage of PEARL JAM performing a cover version of VAN HALEN's "Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love" on May 15, 2010 in Hartford, Connecticut can be viewed below.

According to The Pulse of Radio, PEARL JAM guitarist Mike McCready has written the musical score for an entire episode of the Fox sci-fi series "Fringe". Although the series' producers had initially contacted the band about using their hit song "Just Breathe" in the segment, McCready went further than that. He explained to Billboard.com, "I wasn't a huge fan of the show at first — but now I totally am. I like 'X-Files'-type shows with government conspiracies and extra terrestrials and all that."

The episode, titled "Northwest Passage", aired on May 6 on Fox.

McCready has in the past written the score for a surfing documentary called "Westsiders", and also contributed music to the movie "Almost Famous", about a young journalist traveling with a rock band in the early '70s.

He said that writing for a TV show was "a completely different kind of songwriting than what I'm used to . . . They told me they wanted some sort of Northwest, dark-type feelings. It's a very dark show, so I played a darker kind of guitar tone and even stuff that doesn't sound like guitar, and a little bit of piano."

The guitarist hopes to devote more of his time in the future to writing scores for movies and TV, but for now is focusing on PEARL JAM's North American tour, which launched earlier this month.
