Peruvian Promoter Trying To Bring AEROSMITH To Lima
February 19, 2010According to LivingInPeru.com, a Peruvian entrepreneur is trying to bring AEROSMITH to Lima, Peru as part of the band's Latin American tour.
Jorge Ferrand says AEROSMITH may perform in Lima in May, although the date may get pushed back to September.
"If they actually come, [vocalist] Steven Tyler will [be part of the band's lineup," said Ferrand, adding that the concert could take place at the University of San Marcos stadium.
In addition to their recently announced appearance at this June's Download Festival in the U.K., AEROSMITH has now revealed that it will also perform on June 10 at the Sweden Rock Festival in Sölvesborg, Sweden. Tyler said in a statement, "Swedish audiences are like no other. We're all very excited."
The statement also included a few words from guitarist Joe Perry, who said, "This is the first show of our European tour. We can't wait to uncork our tour here in Sweden and I am sure the cork will hit the ceiling." A spokesperson for the band, meanwhile, told Billboard.com that more European shows are in the works.
Perry had been the most vocal in his criticism of Tyler after the singer injured himself in a fall from the stage last August, forcing the band to cancel the remaining dates on its summer tour.
Tyler subsequently announced his intention to take a two-year break from AEROSMITH and focus on a solo project, which in turn led Perry and the rest of the band to publicly discuss getting a new frontman.
Although Tyler entered rehab in December for an addiction to painkillers, plans continued for AEROSMITH to recruit a new temporary vocalist, with Perry reportedly approaching Paul Rodgers, Chris Cornell and Billy Idol.
Tyler's management and attorneys threatened legal action if the band went forward with that agenda. There was no public response from the group but the festival dates were confirmed shortly thereafter. It was reported that Download organizers would only offer the gig if Tyler were to appear.
