PETER CRISS On His Next Solo Album: 'I Ain't Rushing It'

December 20, 2014

Jacky BamBam of Philadelphia's 93.3 WMMR radio station conducted an interview with original KISS drummer Peter Criss on November 28 at the "All Things That Rock" festival in Oaks, Pennsylvania. You can now listen to the chat at this location.

Speaking about the status of his long-awaited new solo album, Criss said: "I'm sitting on it. I ain't rushing it. I'm not gonna say rock's dead, 'cause it isn't; it's far from dead. It's not what it used to be, let's say, rock and roll, so I'm kind of taking my time with this one. I don't wanna rush it. I've been sitting now, probably five years already, on it, but I've got [ROB ZOMBIE guitarist John 5] playing some stuff on it, so it's a little heavier than my usual stuff, and I want it to be right. [I wanna] put out a good record."

Criss, a breast cancer survivor, also spoke about being honored at this year's Cancer Research & Treatment Fund's Hall Of Fame event on November 18 at the JW Marriot Essex House in New York City.

"Men get breast cancer," he said. "I don't like the word 'breast,' because it seems like a stigma, and right away you think it's [only] women, but it's not; it's one percent of men, and that's a lot of guys. Like if it was your dad, or your brother, or your son, you'd flip out really quick and go, 'Oh my God! Oh my God!' So I don't see enough education for guys, I don't see commercials on TV, a guy getting up there and saying, 'I am Jack' — God forbid — 'and I had breast cancer and I survived, and I wanna tell you men get it. So when you find anything, please go and get a checkup.' Nothing. And I'd like to see that change in my time. I'd like to make a change with that, man."

Criss's last solo CD, titled "One for All", came out in 2007. Peter produced the album himself for the first time, and was joined by guest musicians that included keyboardist Paul Shaffer and bassist Will Lee of "Late Night with David Letterman". The album featured a range of styles, from rock and jazz to blues and Broadway, and included covers of "What a Difference a Day Makes" and "Send in the Clowns".

Criss quit KISS for the third time in 2004.
