POISON Frontman On ROCKLAHOMA And Upcoming Solo Album

March 13, 2008

Video footage of POISON frontman Bret Michaels talking about playing this year's Rocklahoma festival — which is set to take place in a field in Pryor, Oklahoma July 10 through 13 — can be vewed at YouTube (courtesy of the Artisan News Service). The clip was shot at the Rocklahoma 2008 press conference, which took place on March 4 at the world-famous Whisky A Go-Go in Hollywood, California.

On playing with his solo band instead of POISON:

"Real simple, here's what happens with the solo band: It is a full-on band," he said. "It sounds amazing. We get to bring out the POISON hits. It sounds amazing. I get to play all the POISON hits, we bring those out. I get to do some POISON songs I don't always get to do with the band that I love. We'll call them the b-sides or album cuts. And then I get to do the solo songs, I get to some cover stuff, and I talk a lot. My solo show is a big pyro-energized 'Storytellers'. In between the songs I get to tell the fans about what I was thinking, why I wrote it, but we keep the energy up. Big explosions, big excitement. It's going to play out there so people feel they're in a living room with 40,000 people in it."

On the success of his reality dating/matchmaking VH1 show "Rock of Love with Bret Michaels":

"I want to thank not only the media and the fans, but for making the VH1 show the 'Rock Of Love', the number one show on cable television. I want to thank you very much for that. That is awesome. Keeping the rock and roll, brother. Keeping the rock and roll alive and kicking."

On what to expect from his solo album titled "Rock My World":

"So, we're getting to do... We're going to kick off... I got a brand new solo album, simply titled 'Rock My World', and that comes out a week before we get there. We're going to kick off all that music that night along with all the POISON hits."
