Police: Murder Of BACKYARD BURIAL Singer Was 'Shockingly Brutal'
February 18, 2011According to New Zealand's 3 News,a senior police officer has described the killing of the lead singer of one of New Zealand's longest-running death metal bands, BACKYARD BURIAL, as the most brutal murderer he's seen in 23 years.
Matthew John Hall, 35, who went by the stage name "Blaps Warmonger", was found dead with multiple stab wounds by his roommate at his Wellington apartment on Tuesday.
"In 23 years of the police, I've seen a number of homicides… these are some of the most graphic and horrific injuries I've seen," Detective Senior Sergeant Dave Thornton told 3 News.
"[Hall] was stabbed with a weapon. That's part of our enquiries at the moment, to determine what was used to stab him," added Thornton.
Police say there is nothing to suggest the killing was drug related.
"[Matthew] was a 35-year-old gentleman who was employed by Capital and Coast Health. He was involved in the heavy-metal scene as a singer in a band. He had quite an active social life and a good group of friends and associates," said Thornton.
Hall's funeral is being planned for next week.
BACKYARD BURIAL released its debut album, titled "Symptoms Of Psychopathology", in 1999.
