PRIMAL FEAR: 'Unbelievably Disappointed And Sad' Over THE METAL GODS Tour Cancellation
May 9, 2003German power metallers PRIMAL FEAR have issued a statement explaining their position regarding the recent cancellation of The 2003 Metal Gods North American Tour. As previously reported, the multi-band package trek featuring HALFORD, co-headliners TESTAMENT, IMMORTAL, CARNAL FORGE, PRIMAL FEAR, PAINMUSEUM, and AMON AMARTH was called off last Friday (May 2) due to "contractual difficulties."
PRIMAL FEAR's statement reads as follows:
"We spent a lot of money to be a part of this tour and we lost not only the money — we lost our faith in doing business with the U.S. people under these circumstances. We had some meetings during the days after the final show in NY and first of all, we don't want to blame anybody now of the two remaining parties — the booking agency Universal Attractions Inc. and Metal Gods Tours Inc. (HALFORD's mgmt EMAS)!
"The research will continue in the next days, but it will not change the fact that the tour is over and we're tired of all the excuses and even more excuses. We just listened to reports, that if the HALFORD camp would have cancelled just one of their own 3 nightliners, the tour [would have been] safe. The next two dates in Worcester and Montreal were close to be sold out. Others say that the booking agent confirmed the tour dates too late for an accordingly promotion. Contractual difficulties were the official reasons [for the cancellation given by] HALFORD's management. Just one thing, we have our European dates at least 4 months before the first show signed & sealed, including the contracts. After the mess, more and more people start to gossip about reasons and their view — for the [PRIMAL FEAR] camp, gossip doesn't help in this situation. We just want to tell, that we're unbelievably disappointed and sad. During the 2 weeks, we had a great time and saw that Rob Halford is still the man with the voice of metal and he proves it, his band incl. Bobby, Mike, Roy & Mike kicked ass — TESTAMENT killed, Chuck is one of the friendliest persons we've ever met. IMMORTAL are on top of their genre and they are cool guys. If there would be a chance in the future for another collaboration, we would join them! In the end, we lost a lot of money and even if Nuclear Blast Records help us out in this situation, we have a very rough financial time before us. Thanks to the metalheads in the US & Canada for some great shows!
"One more thing – Delta Airlines. After talking four hours on the phone and in person, to two of their representatives, they gave us two options: they wanted to charge each of us another $ 2,000 — to fly home from NY, even if we've got regular tickets to fly from Dallas to Germany or we should buy cheaper tickets from another company – aha! –just arrogant stupid excuses.
"Our 'Plan B' at the moment is to concentrate on the songwriting for the new album and to sort out the financial situation of our company. We will record the new [PRIMAL FEAR] album in Oct/Nov. right after the European open air festival season. Watch out for a release in late Feb 2004 and a following tour!"
