PRIMITIVE GRAVEN IMAGE Guitarist Slams KERRY KING For Finding TRIVIUM Inspirational
June 20, 2008Guitarist Luke "Ljosalfur" Lehane of the UK black metallers PRIMITIVE GRAVEN IMAGE has slammed SLAYER guitarist Kerry King for citing TRIVIUM guitarists Matt Heafy and Corey Beaulieu as inspirational during a recent interview.
Speaking to UK's Total Guitar magazine, King stated about TRIVIUM who will be co-headlining a UK tour with SLAYER in the fall "They're just about the last of the new wave of guitar bands that we haven't toured with yet. I'll be at the side of the stage watching them. Great players like that make us want to do better."
Writing on the PRIMITIVE GRAVEN IMAGEMySpace page, Lehane stated, "It makes me mad and somewhat sad, when members of the likes of SLAYER make statements like this. Having such a legendary status in the metal world, I would like to think the 'kings' of metal would know their metal. But no. It appears they don't. I remember a few months back, another Blabbermouth post where Kerry King was giving death metal a bad rap. I suppose that may be fair enough, but gaining inspiration from the likes of TRIVIUM? Please. If anyone thinks TRIVIUM is inspirational, then they have an extremely overactive imagination. Yes, TRIVUM can play. Well done, so can any teenager that locks himself in his bedroom for hours on end with a guitar. The last I heard, TRIVIUM played rehashed 'lite' thrash with horrible pop overtones that certainly do not belong anywhere near the metal world. Kerry King is drawing inspiration from this? He'd do better to give 'St. Anger' [by METALLICA] a listen. These metal 'legends' need to dig deeper into modern metal a bit, and stop listening to, and namechecking all the bands that their labels tell them to. There is a lot of stuff out there that is played way better than TRIVIUM and has soul, character and feeling tagged on. They might not be signed to Roadrunner, but I assure you, they are there. Kerry King gets awarded no cool points today."
PRIMITIVE GRAVEN IMAGE's debut album, "Traversing the Awesome Night", was released in the U.S. in April 2007 on Open Grave Records.
