Prison Officials Still Considering Work Release Request For Ex-GREAT WHITE Tour Manager

June 7, 2006

The Associated Press is reporting that state prison officials are still considering whether the man who accidentally started a nightclub fire that killed 100 people should be placed in a work-release program.

Daniel Biechele was the tour manager for the band GREAT WHITE. He lit a pyrotechnics display three years ago inside a crowded West Warwick nightclub, triggering a deadly blaze. After pleading guilty, Biechele was sentenced to four years in prison.

But a judge said Biechele should be eligible for a work-release program. He has found employment with a nonprofit firm in Woonsocket.

Prison officials say they must do a background check on Biechele's proposed boss before making a final decision.

They must also notify local police departments and have sent letters to the victims' family members.
