Pryor Getting A Sales Tax Boost From ROCKLAHOMA
July 9, 2009Rhett Morgan of Tulsa World reports that the annual Rocklahoma festival, which runs Thursday through Sunday, represents the biggest sales-tax event on the calendar for Pryor, Oklahoma, Mayor Jimmy Tramel said.
"It's Christmas in June-July," he said.
For those two months, the festival helps boost the city's sales tax numbers by about $66,000, the mayor said.
"We are ground zero and certainly are very grateful for the impact it gives to us," said Barbara Hawkins, president of the Pryor Area Chamber of Commerce. "But I’m also very grateful that all of northeastern Oklahoma is participating."
Headlined by bands ANTHRAX, RATT, STRYPER and TWISTED SISTER, Rocklahoma will feature two-dozen acts expected to attract at least 80,000 people over the four days. Gates open at 11:30 a.m. Thursday and the last show (TWISTED SISTER) begins at 10:15 p.m. Sunday.
