PYTHIA: 'Betray My Heart' Video Released
December 14, 2011"Betray My Heart", the new video from U.K. symphonic metallers PYTHIA — who feature in their ranks the classically trained soprano Emily Alice Ovenden — can be seen below. The clip was filmed at the majestic St. John's of Hackney at the end of summer; a fitting baptism by fire for new bassist Mark Harrington who has fitted in to the lineup like a wandering bard, finally finding his way home. The song comes off the band's long-awaited second album, "The Serpent's Curse", which will be released on February 27 via Golden Axe.
Once again, PYTHIA chose Jacob Hansen (VOLBEAT, DESTRUCTION, MERCENARY) to handle the mix and mastering of the CD.
"During the making of 'The Serpent's Curse', we encountered the highs and lows of human experience," the band said. "From the darkness of death to the wonder of birth as a band we faced these colossal events united. This album sprung from our endeavours to understand the circle of life, the mighty force of nature and our fight for survival."
PYTHIA will the "Betray My Heart" single on December 19.
"The Serpent's Curse" cover artwork was created by Brian Froud ("Star Wars", "Labyrinth") while the single artwork was completed by Gurdish Haugsdal.
Physical single formats of "Betray My Heart" and a limited CD/DVD edition of "The Serpent's Curse" are available for pre-order now.
Regarding the "Betray My Heart" song and video, guitarist Ross White said, "'Betray My Heart' is a dark, heavy and very 'full-on' song. Heavy riff after heavy riff, pummeling drums, layers of epic keys and Emily's trademark soaring, emotion drenched vocals full of dark yet catchy melodies. This ain't no sugar-coated pop metal, it's dark symphonic power-thrash metal!"
Added drummer Marc Dyos: "This video was all about capturing the energy and emotion of both the song itself, and the band's live shows. Pounding and aggressive, yet intimate and emotive, personal and introspective, but spewing forth a venomous assault."
PYTHIA's debut album, "Beneath The Veiled Embrace", was released in October 2009 via Golden Axe.
