RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE To Headline Australia's BIG DAY OUT Festival

According to Undercover News, RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE is strongly rumored to have secured one of the headlining slots at next year's Big Day Out festival. Ahead of an official Big Day Out announcement, promoters Lees & West have let the cat out of the bag by announcing RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE shows for Sydney and Melbourne that straddle the Big Day Out dates.

RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE will play the Sydney Entertainment Centre on January 22 and Melbourne's Festival Hall on January 30.

Big Day Out is on in Sydney on January 24 and Melbourne on January 27.

RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE last played in Australia 11 years ago, also for the Big Day Out.

The band — vocalist Zack de la Rocha, guitarist Tom Morello, drummer Brad Wilk and bassist Tim Commerford — released three politically charged albums: 1992's self-titled debut, 1996's "Evil Empire", 1999's "Battle of Los Angeles" and its 2000 covers album "Renegades".

It split in 2000 after the singer decided to record a solo album. The rest of the band formed AUDIOSLAVE with SOUNDGARDEN frontman Chris Cornell. The Harvard-educated Morello also recently released a solo album under the alias THE NIGHTWATCHMAN.

"Is it coincidence that in the seven years that RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE has been away that America has slid into right-wing purgatory?," asked Morello on the eve of the reunion at California's Coachella Festival in April.

"I think not. It occurred to all of us that the times were right to see if we can knock the Bush administration out in one fell swoop, and we hope to do that job well. There is no action without reaction. And we're part of that reaction."
