RAMONES Musical Headed To The U.S.
February 11, 2005A musical based on the songs of the RAMONES called "Gabba Gabba Hey" is headed to the U.S. The musical director for the show is original RAMONES drummer Tommy Ramone, who told Launch Radio Networks that the story is set in and around the band's old New York City stomping grounds. "It's about a, a young kid who comes from an abusive home, (with an) abusive stepfather, (who) runs away to the Lower East Side, and gets into more trouble, and is redeemed through 18 RAMONES songs (chuckles) at the end," he said.
"Gabba Gabba Hey" has already premiered in Perth, Australia, and it's being staged in Germany this spring and at the Edinburgh Festival in Scotland this summer. The plan is for the show to begin running here in the U.S. in the fall.
In other RAMONES news, the theatrical documentary "End of the Century: The Story of the Ramones" will be released on DVD on March 15, and it will also air on the PBS series "Independent Lens" on April 26.
