Report: Heavy Metal Soldier Left A Void That Only Music Can Fill
January 26, 2004Mike Barber of the Seattle Post-Intelligencer reports that at 28, John Sullivan was a heavy metal "shredder," a phenomenal guitar player so good at tearing up the fret board that he caused jaws to drop.
Known among local musicians simply as "Sully," he was also a 101st Airborne Division soldier who didn't come home, killed Nov. 15 in Mosul, Iraq, in a helicopter crash. Left behind to carry on his memory were his widow, Katrina of Federal Way, a 10-year-old stepdaughter and twin infant sons he never saw.
Unlike the demise of old soldiers in an old song, though, Sully's comrades won't let the young soldier's music fade away. On Feb. 21, local metal and other musicians plan to honor his life with music — his music. [Read more]
