Report: Metalheads Rally Behind Ailing Girl

Maggie Downs of The Cincinnati Enquirer is reporting that Metal for Medicine, a benefit show featuring 10 Cincinnati metal bands, will take place on April 17 at Never on Sunday in Silverton, Ohio. All cover charges ($5) and raffle proceeds will go to Jessica Wiggins, a 3-year-old Batavia girl who suffers acute lymphoblastic leukemia.

The fund-raiser was the idea of Eva Wheeldon, 23, who works with the little girl's uncle at the Home Depot in Lebanon. Wheeldon, whose husband is in the band TRANSMISSION, asked local musicians to help. Groups like PAIN LINK, CROWNING APATHY and KILL THE MESSENGER came to the rescue. Several other bands agreed to play for free.

"I've gotten a lot more help from the metal scene than I have from many businesses and corporations," Wheeldon told The Cincinnati Enquirer. "You expect jerks. All kinds of macho men all wearing black. It's the last place I ever expected to get the help I received. But what I did receive went way beyond what I ever imagined." [Read more]
