Reports Of New GUNS N' ROSES 'Best Of' Album False?
December 9, 2005According to a posting at So Hood Magazine, a Geffen spokeswoman has shot down rumors that the label plans to release a GUNS N' ROSES "greatest hits" double-disc CD, called "Welcome to the Jungle - The Very Best of Guns N' Roses", in December. The spokeswoman told So Hood Magazine no such album is on the label's rosters for release. Speculation about the rumored CD has been circulating around the Internet for weeks, with major sites, including Amazon.com and Billboard.com, posting reports that the album would hit store shelves on Dec. 20. The spokeswoman called these reports ''incorrect.''
The first GUNS N' ROSES hits collection, released in March of 2004, has sold 2.56 million copies in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundsScan. GUNS N' ROSES vocalist Axl Rose, along with former guitarist Slash and ex-bassist Duff McKagan, tried to block the release of "Greatest Hits" with a lawsuit, claiming that the record label had assembled the CD without their input.
The band's label, Geffen Records, insisted that it was forced to put out a greatest hits album since Axl Rose had failed to deliver the long-delayed new GUNS album, "Chinese Democracy".
