RITCHIE BLACKMORE To Rejoin DEEP PURPLE For MONTREUX JAZZ FESTIVAL Appearance?

May 29, 2006

The Montreux Jazz Festival founder Claude Nobs has told Billboard.com that efforts are being made to get former DEEP PURPLE guitarist Ritchie Blackmore to rejoin his bandmates for their appearance at the 40th-anniversary edition of the festival this summer.

When asked by Billboard.com about DEEP PURPLE's performance at the Swiss festival 35 years after their classic "Smoke on the Water" was inspired by a fire at the The Montreux Casino, Nobs said, "It is going to be a special evening. I don't know who they are going to invite. I hope Ritchie Blackmore will join them. I know they are trying."

The 40th annual Montreux Jazz Festival — which has a remarkable history of presenting global superstars from throughout, and beyond, the world of traditional jazz — is scheduled to take place June 30 through July 15.
