RIVAL SONS Guitarist Interviewed In Cardiff (Video)
April 13, 2013On April 10, BRfm, a community radio station serving Brynmawr, Ebbw Vale, Nantyglo and surrounding areas of Blaenau Gwent in south Wales, conducted an interview with guitarist Scott Holiday of California blues rockers RIVAL SONS at Solus in Cardiff. You can now watch the chat below.
RIVAL SONS' latest album, "Head Down", arrived in stores in the U.S. on March 19 via the band's new affiliation with Century Media Records.
"Head Down" was released in Europe on September 17, 2012 via Earache Records. The CD was recorded in Nashville, Tennessee with Grammy-nominated producer Dave Cobb (JAMIE JOHNSON, SHOOTER JENNINGS) and Grammy-winning engineer Vance Powell (JACK WHITE, THE WHITE STRIPES, KINGS OF LEON). The artwork was created by Jason Holley (JOSH RITTER, RAY LAMONTAGNE).
In a recent interview with PureGrainAudio.com, Scott was asked if RIVAL SONS has ever considered the marketability of its sound at a time when the classic rock sound has disappeared from radio. "Obviously, everyone is conscious that it's a business and we want to be on the radio," he replied. "Essentially, you want to be pop music because 'pop' stands for popular. Popular means a lot of people listen to it, you get to play of shows and have a lot of fun. It becomes a widespread thing, but honestly, we're not tailoring it for that at all. We're conscious of it, but we're not thinking, 'Let's do something really retro.' We're thinking what is sonically most pleasing to our ears (the four of us and our producer, Dave Cobb). We're all big fans of analog recording. I'm a huge vinyl junkie. I like that gritty sound; it sounds like rock and roll. I like that sound. We can't go so gritty and grainy because it just won't translate."
