RIVERRED To Begin Recording 'Low-Key' New Album

Hot on the heels of their well-received October 2003 release "Save Myself", Seattle's RIVERRED are set to begin recording their next effort. The new album is a strictly low-key affair and is intended more as a companion piece to "Save Myself" rather than a proper "new" album.

Around 11 songs are slated for the release, which will begin pre-production in late January. Says vocalist/guitarist James Francis: "We've been sitting around getting our promo packs sent out on the new album ['Save Myself'], getting it reviewed, going over deals and in the meantime we started writing new songs and playing around with old songs that haven't been recorded properly yet. So we thought this would be a fun project to keep busy with."

The band are once again going the do-it-yourself route, only this time they may be heading into this without a producer at all. "Well, Chris [Hanson, producer of 'Save Myself'] is super busy. If we can get him for some of this in any capacity I will definitely take him! His wizardry is much welcome in anything we do. Either way, this isn't going to be four-track demo quality by any means, we'll be utilizing some new toys for this and we know that Chris is only a phone call, FedEx or short flight away if we get in too deep. This isn't a 'serious record' and we mostly want to go for a good vibe and just have a good time, keep it raw and throw down some brews. This is our garage days revisited but without the cover songs. Besides, we'll be recording using the latest 'kanek-O-phonic™' technology so it's completely mind-blowing."

The bulk of the material is songs the band has written over the past three years that didn't make it onto the "Save Myself" album, as well as a few brand new songs. In a strange move, two songs from "Save Myself" will be re-recorded. "Well, two songs that we did [on 'Save Myself'] were literally written the day before we started tracking and they came out pretty good, but since we've been playing them live for awhile now they've gotten even better," clarifies James.
