ROB ZOMBIE's 'Halloween' A Year Away
October 30, 2006Launch Radio Networks reports: If all goes according to plan, Rob Zombie's remake of the classic horror film "Halloween" will hit theatres a year from now, just in time for the holiday that shares its name. Zombie said that he was initially reluctant to remake the 1978 original, one of his five favorite horror movies, until he came up with a new way to approach the material. Zombie told Launch that one thing we'll see more of is the background of "Halloween"'s masked serial killer, Michael Myers. "What I want to do is spend more time with him as a kid," he said. "I was never really satisfied with, like, 'Oh, he's a really perfect, normal little boy and then he killed one day.'I wanna really get into, like, what would it take to make this little kid become this person for real. And then what happened when he was locked away all those years, 'cause we hear bits and pieces about it in the first film, but you never see or they really never go into detail."
Zombie told MTV.com last week that the script for "Halloween" is finished, with casting and location scouting just underway. Shooting is scheduled to begin in January.
There's no word on who will play Myers or his adversary, Dr. Loomis, although Zombie said he could see Jeff Bridges or Ben Kingsley in the role of the doctor.
The rocker-turned-filmmaker said that he's watched the original "Halloween" hundreds of times, but recently stopped in order to focus on his own script.
Zombie says the new movie will retain updated versions of Myers' famous mask and the movie's distinctive score.
Zombie's previous credits as a screenwriter and director are 2003's "House of 1000 Corpses" and 2005's "The Devil's Rejects".
