ROB ZOMBIE To Begin Shooting New Movie In Spring

February 4, 2011

The Pulse Of Radio reports that Rob Zombie will begin shooting "The Lords Of Salem", his fifth feature film as a director, this spring, according to a press release sent out by Alliance Films, the production company backing the movie. The film, also written by Zombie, is set in contemporary Salem, where the inhabitants receive a demonic visit from a 300-year old coven of witches. Although Zombie's four previous efforts all came under the horror banner, he told The Pulse Of Radio this is his first one with supernatural overtones. "Yeah, the other ones aren't at all, I don't think. ('House Of 1000') 'Corpses' was just this crazy, bloody, you know, 'Rocky Horror Picture Show' thing, and 'Devil's Rejects' was always meant to be sort of like a post-modern Western, and the 'Halloween' films, I tried to make them not supernatural on purpose. So yeah, this will be the first one that's sort of about supernatural things coming back to life. It's good. I'm excited. It's gonna be very different than the other films."

Zombie told Billboard last year that the story came from his own youth in Massachusetts. "The Salem witch trials and all that was always very prevalent," he said. "Even when I was a little kid, you take a school field trip and go to Salem to the witch museums and watch re-enactments of the witch trials. I always found it fascinating."

"The Lords Of Salem" is being produced by the same team behind the "Paranormal Activity" movies. They also have horror films coming up from original "Saw" director James Wan and "Rain Man" director Barry Levinson.

Zombie's previous films include "House Of 1000 Corpses" (2003),"The Devil's Rejects" (2005),"Halloween" (2007) and "Halloween II" (2009).

The rocker-turned-filmmaker spent most of last year on the road behind his latest solo album, "Hellbilly Deluxe 2".
