SABATON Singer Comments On U.S. Chart 'Accomplishment'

July 8, 2010

"Coat Of Arms", the fifth album from Swedish metallers SABATON, sold around 450 copies in the United States in its first week of release. The CD landed at position No. 124 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.

En route to Frankfurt, Germany for a festival appearance, SABATON lead singer Joakim Brodén checks in from the airport in Stockholm about the band's accomplishment in North America:

"'Coat Of Arms' keeps bringing us amazing news all the time it seems. Six Swedish heavy metal retards in camo pants on the Billboard charts? Never thought I'd see the day! I'm not sure I believe it, but if it's true, we're the happiest Swedes alive at this moment! What's next, pink aliens at Wal-Mart?

"Thanks to all our American brothers and sisters and cousins who actually bought our album instead of downloading it!

"Damn, we've just GOT to find some way to get over to America on this tour!"

"Coat Of Arms" first-week chart positions:

Sweden: #4
Poland: #9
Finland: #17
Germany: #19
Switzerland: #33
Austria: #71

"Coat Of Arms" was released in Europe on May 21 via Nuclear Blast Records. The band's headlining tour, dubbed the "World War Tour", will kick off on August 27 and will consist of over 60 shows in more than 20 countries. The final concert will take place on December 11, after which SABATON "will regroup, rearm and prepare for yet another strike in 2011."

SABATON recently filmed a video in Warsaw, Poland for the song "Uprising", which is described as "a powerful and emotional tribute to those who lost their lives in the Warsaw uprising in 1944." The clip features an appearance by Swedish actor Peter Stormare ("Prison Break", "8MM", 'Fargo') as SS-Obergruppenführer von dem Bach and was directed by Jacek Raginis (who is related to decorated WWII hero Wladyslav Raginis).

SABATON's previous album, "The Art of War", landed on the Swedish chart at No. 5.

Multi-camera footage of SABATON performing the song "Cliffs of Gallipoli" at the Sweden Rock Festival, which was held June 9-12 in Sölvesborg in southern Sweden, can be viewed below (audio recording by Sveriges Radio).
