SAMMY HAGAR Ad-Libs To Start Auto Race
February 26, 2007Launch Radio Networks reports: Sammy Hagar went off-script as he started a NASCAR race on Saturday (February 24). Hagar was at the California Speedway in his hometown of Fontana, where he served as Grand Marshal for the Stater Brothers 300 race, which is part of the NASCAR Busch Series. All he had to do was give the traditional command to the drivers of "Gentlemen, start your engines," but according to the San Bernardino Sun, Hagar decided to ad-lib and asked the crowd if they were having any fun and if they were ready for a race. The drivers started their engines before he finished, but on the videotape, Hagar could be seen announcing, "Gentlemen, start your engines. Light 'em up."
Hagar is quite the high-speed enthusiast. He said he "drives the hell out of" his personal collection of vehicles, including a Ferrari Daytona and a Shelby Ford Mustang GT-H, which he called "a rubber-burning monster." He's also a co-owner of an Indy car in that league's Pro Series.
Hagar will be in New York City on March 12 for VAN HALEN's induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He'll be joined by original frontman David Lee Roth and former bassist Michael Anthony, but it's unknown whether guitarist Eddie Van Halen and drummer Alex Van Halen will attend.
