SAMMY HAGAR's Next Recording Project Will Either Be CHICKENFOOT's Third Album Or THE CIRCLE's Studio Debut

November 8, 2017

Sammy Hagar says that his next recording project will either be the third album from CHICKENFOOT or the first studio effort from THE CIRCLE.

CHICKENFOOT, which features the former VAN HALEN frontman alongside legendary guitarist Joe Satriani, ex-VAN HALEN bassist Michael Anthony and RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS drummer Chad Smith, has been largely inactive since 2012 when it toured with Kenny Aronoff on drums due to Smith's busy schedule with his main band.

This past March, CHICKENFOOT released "Divine Termination", its first new tune in five years, on "Best + Live", the band's first-ever best-of collection.

THE CIRCLE, which features Hagar and Anthony alongside drummer Jason Bonham and guitarist Vic Johnson, released a concert album, "At Your Service", in May 2015. Recorded live on tour in 2014, it documented the band performing hits from Sammy's four decades of rock (MONTROSE, solo, VAN HALEN, THE WABORITAS, CHICKENFOOT) as well as classic tracks from the LED ZEPPELIN catalog.

Hagar, who celebrated his 70th birthday last month, spoke about his future plans during an appearance on the "Trunk Nation" show on SiriusXM channel Volume. He said: "Joe and I have been talking, when he finishes his [solo] tour next June, if he has enough time and if Chad's available, about doing another CHICKENFOOT record. And if they can't do it, if we can't all get together, then I'm gonna do a CIRCLE record. It's gonna be one or the other. Those are my two favorite bands in the world. And I would like to do a CIRCLE record. I'm just afraid that, how can you compare my catalog with something we might write today? CHICKENFOOT's got its own thing, but THE CIRCLE, we play LED ZEPPELIN, VAN HALEN, Sammy Hagar, MONTROSE, CHICKENFOOT… It's, like, to write songs that fit in that set, boy, they better be good, right? [Laughs] In between 'I Can't Drive 55' and 'Right Now', let's say, what are you gonna… a brand new one you're gonna slip in there? Phew! You don't wanna put the people to sleep. So I'm a little nervous about doing a CIRCLE record. But a CHICKENFOOT record… I'm gonna do a record — let's put it that way."

In May 2016, CHICKENFOOT reunited for two one-time shows at Harrah's Lake Tahoe, and played its first complete set in more than six years, along with a special unveiling of "Divine Termination".

In addition to "Divine Termination", "Best + Live" includes over ninety minutes of live music "Best + Live" for the first time released on CD.

After his stint as lead singer of MONTROSE, Hagar launched a successful solo career before joining VAN HALEN in 1985. During his time with the band, they notched four consecutive No. 1 albums before breaking up in the mid-'90s.
