SCOTT WEILAND In Rehab In Florida, Court Case Continued

July 11, 2003

STONE TEMPLE PILOTS/VELVET REVOLVER singer Scott Weiland was due in a Burbank, California, court to face drug charges Friday (July 11),but the case was continued until July 18 because the vocalist is still in rehab in Florida, according to a court clerk.

The 35-year-old musician, who pleaded innocent to two felony charges of possession of heroin and cocaine in early June, was due back in court to set a preliminary hearing date. He's free on $10,000 bail.

Weiland, of Los Angeles, was arrested May 17 after a police officer pulled him over for allegedly driving without headlights on and said he saw drugs in the car.

He previously was arrested for investigation of cocaine and heroin possession and served jail time in 1999 after repeatedly violating his probation and failing to complete drug rehabilitation programs.

In 2001, he pleaded guilty to domestic battery after a fight with his wife at the Hard Rock hotel and casino in Las Vegas. The judge agreed to dismiss the charges as long as Weiland underwent counseling.

His wife, Mary, filed for divorce last fall because of irreconcilable differences. The couple have two young children.
