SEBASTIAN BACH On SKID ROW's 'I Remember You': 'That Song Has Transcended A Lot Of Places That We Never Thought It Would'

November 8, 2026

In a new interview with KWCH, former SKID ROW singer Sebastian Bach was asked how much he depends on nostalgia and how much he wants to bring that to an audience at his live shows nowadays. Bach responded (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): "Well, this is gonna sound weird. Me as a singer, I'm not looking back. I'm trying to sing songs that I recorded when I was 19 or 20 in the original key. We don't tune down anything. So I'm trying to execute a performance that I did almost 40 years ago. I'm looking at doing it right now, and it's not easy.

"As far as nostalgia goes, you keep saying, 'I remember. I remember. I remember.' Yeah. Well, the [SKID ROW] song 'I Remember You' was voted... I'll never forget this. I was on tour in 1990, and I used to wake up and drink coffee and read the newspaper, and I was reading USA Today outside at some hotel on the lobby. And it had an article: 'The Top 10 Prom Songs Of 1990 In America'. Number one prom song played in the United States in 1990 was 'I Remember You'. Number one. So I don't have to explain to anyone who was around in 1990, you were slow dancing at your prom to 'I Remember You'. What could be more nostalgic than that, is a slow dance at your high school prom. So, of course, that song has transcended heavy metal or whatever you wanna call it."

Sebastian continued: "Also, somebody sent me an article from Rolling Stone magazine, and it was an interview with [American singer, songwriter and pianist] Alicia Keys, and they were asking her what her favorite music was, and she goes, one of her favorite songs of all time is 'I Remember You' by SKID ROW. She goes, 'I remember being a kid in my parents' car, and this song would come on, and I would be in the backseat, and every time I hear this song it brings me back to my parents' car.' And that's Alicia Keys. I mean, you can Google this. I'm not making it up.

"I remember watching 'MTV Cribs', and it was [Atlanta-based hip-hop duo] OUTKAST. And it was, da, da, da, da, da, da, da, all this crazy rap stuff, and it's in OUTKAST's house. And he goes into his bedroom, and he goes, 'Yeah, nobody knows what I really listen to.' He goes, 'Nobody knows about no Madonna.' And he holds up this Madonna CD that's next to his bed. And then right next to the Madonna, he goes, 'Nobody knows about no SKID ROW.' This is OUTKAST. And he's got this SKID ROW CD next to his bed. And I'm, like, 'What?' I mean, I'm not making any of this up. It seems crazy.

"Nobody believes me when I say Zoë Kravitz, Lenny's daughter, she had a recording career. She might still have a recording career. What is her first-ever single that she ever released in her life? It was a cover of 'I Remember You' by SKID ROW. And I say that to an interview, and the interview will come out and say, 'Once, Zoë Kravitz did a cover...' No, that was her first single. It wasn't a cover, a deep cut. It was her first single. I'm not making this up. So this song has obviously transcended a lot of places that we never thought it would. So that's definitely a nostalgic song for many, many people. I do it every night, and people love it. But I'm concerned about doing it now. So I'm not thinking about then. I'm going, 'You better hit that scream at the end, mother trucker.' [Laughs]"

Earlier this year, Bach was chosen to front TWISTED SISTER for the latter band's fall 2026 shows after iconic singer Dee Snider resigned from TWISTED SISTER due to "health challenges".

Sebastian was born Sebastian Philip Bierk on April 3, 1968 in Freeport, Bahamas. He became a Canadian-American singer-songwriter, actor and artist who achieved success as the frontman for the band SKID ROW from 1987 until 1996. Following his departure from the band, he released several solo albums and began acting on Broadway and other stage productions, including "Jekyll & Hyde", "The Rocky Horror Show" and "Jesus Christ Superstar". He has also appeared in a number of TV programs and films, notably "Trailer Park Boys", "Gilmore Girls", "Gone Country" and "The Masked Singer". He recently expanded his horizons and creating paintings inspired by his late father, renowned artist David Bierk.

Bach's current solo touring band includes his son Paris Bach on drums, "Bruiser" Brody DeRozie on guitar, and Fede Delfino on bass.

Bach's latest solo album and his first LP in more than 10 years, 2024's "Child Within The Man", was well-received, with Associated Press saying "…it shows a fierce performer in prime fighting form…his vocals remain sharp and his songwriting talents as cunning as ever," while Ultimate Classic Rock noted: "Bach's voice has lost none of its rage or range, even in the highest registers…" In addition, the album's "(Hold On) To The Dream" track was included in Consequence's "30 Best Metal & Hard Rock Songs Of 2024" which described the song as "...a late-career masterpiece from the former SKID ROW singer. Baz hits some of the highest notes of his career on the sweeping ballad, an inspiring anthem about perseverance."

"Child Within The Man" yielded the following singles/videos, all of which have impacted the rock charts: "Freedom", "What Do I Got To Lose?", "Everybody Bleeds" and "(Hold On) To The Dream" (along with the "(Hold On) To The Dream" alternate video),"Future Of Youth" and "To Live Again".

"Child Within The Man" was recorded in Orlando, Florida; produced and mixed by Michael "Elvis" Baskette; engineered by Jef Moll, assistant engineered by Josh Saldate and mastered by Robert Ludwig of Gateway Mastering. Bach wrote or co-wrote all the album's 11 tracks and sang all lead and backing vocals.

"Child Within The Man" features guest appearances from John 5 (MÖTLEY CRÜE, ROB ZOMBIE, MARILYN MANSON),Steve Stevens (BILLY IDOL) and Orianthi (ALICE COOPER, MICHAEL JACKSON) — who all co-wrote their respective tracks with Bach — and two tracks co-written with ALTER BRIDGE's Myles Kennedy ("What Do I Got to Lose?" and "To Live Again"). Devin Bronson (guitars),Todd Kerns (bass) and Jeremy Colson (drums) round out the players on the album.

Prior to "Child Within The Man"'s arrival, Bach hadn't released a full-length disc since "Give 'Em Hell", which came out in March 2014.
