SEPULTURA Drummer IGOR CAVALERA Issues Statement Regarding European Tour
January 24, 2006SEPULTURA drummer Igor Cavalera has issued an official statement regarding his decision to sit out the band's upcoming European tour with IN FLAMES, which is scheduled to begin in March (as exclusively reported by BLABBERMOUTH.NET on January 13). The statement reads as follows:
"There are a lot of comments about me leaving the band, so I thought it would be better to explain to the fans exactly what is going on and why I am not going to Europe.
"The reason why I am not doing the European dates is because I wanna be with my family and specially with my new born son Antonio.
"But at the same time we decided that it would hurt a lot the release of the album not to do any dates, so we agreed to call a step drummer to do those dates.
"I also would like to explain to our fans that I'm not leaving SEPULTURA, it's just that I need this time for me, and I hope the guys have a great tour."
As previously reported, Cavalera became a fourth-time father on January 15 when his second wife, Laima, gave birth to the couple's first child, Antonio Leyton Cavalera. Both mother and son are said to be doing fine. Igor has three children with his first wife, Monika.
SEPULTURA will be joined by former SOULFLY drummer Roy Mayorga on their European tour with IN FLAMES. Mayorga played with Igor's brother Max for several years in the late '90s and again in 2001-2003.
SEPULTURA's European tour will not be the first time that the band have performed without Igor Cavalera. Back in April 2005, SEPULTURA completed a short tour of Mexico with the help of roadie Guilherme Martin (ex-VIPER, TOYSHOP) after Cavalera was unable to make the dates.
SEPULTURA's new album, "Dante XXI" (view cover here),is scheduled for release in North America on March 14 via SPV. An MP3 of the album track "Convicted In Life" can be downloaded at this location.
