SEPULTURA Explains Show Cancellations
November 20, 2006Brazilan thrashers SEPULTURA have issued a statement explaining the cancellation of the first few shows of their North American headlining tour (as BLABBERMOUTH.NET first reported yesterday). It reads as follows:
"We would like to apologize to everyone for our delay for the upcoming U.S. tour. There were visa problems preventing us from starting the tour on time. Our first show will start in Seattle, Washington, November 21st.
"The worst feeling for us is to cancel shows and again we sincerely apologize for anyone who purchased tickets for the previous shows."
SEPULTURA vocalist Derrick Green added in a separate statement, "The American consulate has a new computer system that went down and was not working on the day we were supposed to leave! We couldn't obtain the visas on Friday [Nov. 17] and they are closed during the weekend. We are now leaving on Monday and the first show will be in Seattle, Washington November 21st.
"I hate to cancel shows and I feel bad for anyone going to the shows who didn't know. We will make this happen no matter what! We are ready to give the gringos hell, haha!"
Affected dates:
Nov. 16 - Phoenix, AZ - The Marquee Theatre
Nov. 17 - Long Beach, CA - The Vault
Nov. 18 - Sacramento, CA - The Boardwalk
Nov. 19 - Concord, CA - Bourbon Street
The Long Beach date at The Vault has apparently since been rescheduled for December 22.
In addition to SEPULTURA, the tour features SWORN ENEMY, DIECAST and SUICIDE SILENCE.
As previously reported, SEPULTURA's official web site was recently updated with links to video footage of the band's entire two-song performance on the Brazilian TV show "Programa do Jô" on September 7, 2006:

SEPULTURA's appearance on "Programa do Jô" marked the TV debut of the band's new drummer, Jean Dolabella (ex-UDORA),who replaced founding member Igor Cavalera in June.
Igor announced earlier in the year that he was taking a break from the group's touring activities to spend time with his second wife and their new son (who was born in January). Filling in on drums during the band's European tour with IN FLAMES was Roy Mayorga, who played with Igor's brother Max in SOULFLY for several years in the late '90s and again in 2001-2003.
Igor is the second Cavalera to leave SEPULTURA. In 1996, Max Cavalera exited the group after the rest of the band fired Max's wife Gloria as SEPULTURA's manager.
