SEPULTURA Guitarist: 'Free Tibet!'
August 5, 2007SEPULTURA guitarist Andreas Kisser has issued the following update:
"The show in Jena [Germany] was great — completely sold out with an amazing crowd. Danke Jena! Went to Cologne, it was very good also with two great opening bands: LAST ONE DYING and BORN FOR PAIN.
"After Germany we went to France to play at the Lez'arts Schenique Festival in the city of Salestat with THE EXPLOITED, TREPONEM PAL and a French band that I was very impressed by, they are called LE TAMBOURS DU BRONX, a group that uses a lot of electronic percussion together with huge cans creating a very powerful and interesting sound.
"Salestat is a very nice city with a lot of history and stories, one of them is that the creator from the Statue of Liberty in New York is from the city.
"The festival, apart from music, has a great deal of concern about the problems in the world and this year they are stressing the problem in Tibet. Unfortunately the Free Tibet campaign is still going on. We had the pleasure to meet a singer from Tibet, his name is Lo Ten. He met us he asked if we could do a song together. I said, of course, even without any rehearsal I tough of putting him to do 'Bullet The Blue Sky' with us. He played and instrument that resembles a huge shell from the sea with and heavy and continues sound. Amazing! He also used his incredible voice to improvise in the middle of the song. It was very emotional...he also made a quick speech about the situation in Tibet and his discontent feelings about the Chinese government.
"I hope that our effort here, some how, can help the cause of Tibet. FREE TIBET!"
Andreas was born in Brazil in 1968 and started playing acoustic guitar in 1981, learning the basic chords with popular Brazilian music. He later discovered KISS and QUEEN, and that changed his life. In his early years Andreas was hugely influenced by OZZY, BLACK SABBATH, IRON MAIDEN, TWISTED SISTER, WHITESNAKE, VENOM and METALLICA. He learnt a lot from all those guitarists, plus bands like PINK FLOYD and YES and guitarists such as Eric Clapton, John Williams, Romero Brothers, Leo Brower, Baden Powell, Villa Lobos, etc.
Andreas joined SEPULTURA in 1987 after meeting the band on a holiday. He recorded his first LP, "Schizophrenia", the same year. With that album SEPULTURA got a contract to release the next record worldwide.
Andreas is currently on the road with SEPULTURA, touring all over the world. He is also working on his first solo album, which he hopes to release in early 2008.
