As previously reported, Serj Tankian is collaborating with playwright Steven Sater on a musical called "Prometheus Bound", according to Spinner.com. Tankian has already finished eight songs for the show, which is based on the classic Greek tragedy. The Tony Award-winning Sater, who worked with musician Duncan Sheik on the Broadway hit "Spring Awakening", said about the new show, "It's got this amazing ancient Greek verse thing going on with this cool electronic hyperspace rock. It's unlike anything you've heard."
Sater said that the show will probably open in Boston first before a New York production is attempted, with an album also in the works.
The playwright added that he thinks the show could bring an entirely different audience to see a musical, explaining, "I just saw (Tankian) in concert, that audience was amazing...I think it will open up really different things for both of us. It's a really exciting collaboration."
Serj Tankian has announced select North American tour dates in July and August amidst a run of European shows. Tankian will perform at two Canadian festivals: the Pemberton Festival on July 25, with NINE INCH NAILS, and OZZY OSBOURNE's Monsters of Rock Festival on July 26. Tankian will also play a special hometown show at the Wiltern Theater in Los Angeles on August 2 before heading to Dallas for a mainstage appearance at Ozzfest 2008 on August 8 alongside METALLICA.
