SILENT CIVILIAN: 'The Last One Standing' Video Released

March 25, 2010

"The Last One Standing", the new video from SILENT CIVILIAN — the band led by SPINESHANK vocalist Jonny Santos — can be viewed below. The clip was directed by Scott Hansen (A DAY TO REMEMBER, ALESANA, A SKYLIT DRIVE, CARNIFEX),and it turned out "fucking amazing," according to the band.

"The Last One Standing" comes off SILENT CIVILIAN's sophomore album, "Ghost Stories", which is scheduled for release on May 18 via Mediaskare/Century Media. The group recorded a total of 15 songs for the CD, but only between 10 and 12 tracks will make the final record.

SILENT CIVILIAN recently teamed up with Revolver magazine to present the worldwide debut of the track "Atonement". Click here to check it out or stream it below.

Commented Santos: "The song 'Atonement' is basically about being cast away by someone you respect, love and hold in high regards. Lost loyalty, yet still holding on to what was once true.

"I was lyrically inspired by someone whom I loved and adored, but whom was too swayed by the next door neighbor's lawn instead of watering their own.

"People need to think twice before making decisions they will regret for years to come.

"We play the song live and it has been met with nothing but praise. It's a combination of tragedy and violence. It differs from the rest of the album in the sense of being more of melodic, yet shows how the band has grown adhering to no boundaries. This is atonement."

Santos previously stated about the upcoming CD, "Musically, this record is very different from the last, but evolution is the key to longevity, in my eyes. I believe we are making a record that will retain what is the main essence of SILENT CIVILIAN, but maturing greatly pushing forward.

"Having another guitar player contribute more to this record as opposed to the last, in which I wrote 90% of the music, is a plus. This record is also much more violent than the last and will be less produced in the sense that I am really trying to capture the elements of a 'live' thrash metal band on tape. There is not much room to breathe with this one, and I want to sonically beat the shit out of the listener without losing their interest. Dynamically, it will be a roller coaster of beatings and abuse!

"Don't get me wrong, we will still have very melodic moments as well, because melody has always been a strong part of metal. I am going with a lot of very traditional thrash metal riffs, because I don't really listen to very many newer bands out of fear that I will be influenced into sounding like the band of the week. I would rather be influenced by the bands that pioneered this genre of music (TESTAMENT, EXODUS, KREATOR, DEATH ANGEL [my favorite], FORBIDDEN, etc.)."

SILENT CIVILIAN's debut album, "Rebirth of the Temple", was released in May 2006. The CD was recorded at Undercity Recordings with former MACHINE HEAD/SOULFLY guitarist Logan Mader producing and mixing.
