Sirius Radio Honors Fallen METAL CHURCH Frontman DAVID WAYNE
May 16, 2005Sirius Satellite Radio's Hard Attack channel will air a tribute to the late METAL CHURCH singer David Wayne on Ian Christe's "Bloody Roots" program this Tuesday, May 17 beginning at 9:00 p.m. EST. (repeat airs Friday, May 20 at 2:00 p.m. EST) In addition to classic tracks by METAL CHURCH and rare music by later projects REVEREND and WAYNE, the tribute will tell the tale of Wayne's contributions to thrash and speed metal, detailing the exploits of the original voice of METAL CHURCH.
"David Wayne was the real deal," Christe states. "His voice still sends shivers down my spine, as any good metal screamer should. I was lucky to deal with him while writing 'Sound of the Beast', and all his stories were super-funny and full of life. He was confused when Kurt Cobain cited METAL CHURCH as an influence — to him, metal wasn't about NIRVANA smashing guitars, it was K.K. Downing and Glenn Tipton trading leads. I hope people remember that this guy was in one of the first thrash bands on MTV, and that everyone from TESTAMENT to CANDLEMASS to 3 INCHES OF BLOOD owes him a salute."
As previously reported, Wayne died on Tuesday, May 10, due to complications from injuries he sustained in a head-on automobile accident several months ago. He was 47 years old.
