SIX FEET UNDER: 'Death Rituals' Lands On German Chart
November 27, 2008"Death Rituals", the new album from Florida-based death metallers SIX FEET UNDER, has entered the German Media Control chart at position No. 64. As previously reported, the CD sold around 2,300 copies in the United States in its first week of release, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The LP debuted at No. 14 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.
According to a press release, "Death Rituals" "features 12 tracks of pure American death metal delivering a bludgeoning slab of metal that will leave fans hungering for more. Legendary death metal vocalist Chris Barnes, along with guitarist Steve Swanson, bass legend Terry Butler, and drummer Greg Gall, continue to follow the dark and demented path that merges what Outburn magazine calls 'tried-and-true death groove' with stomach-turning lyrics and themes. 'Death Rituals' saw the band returning to Morrisound Studios in Tampa, Florida with Chris Carroll at the helm with mixing duties being handled by Toby Wright and the return of SIX FEET UNDER's old friend Bill Metoyer, who recorded the band's CD 'Warpath', helping out with recording of the drums."
MTV's HeadbangersBlog.com recently caught up with SIX FEET UNDER frontman Chris Barnes to talk to him about the title of the band's album, "Death Rituals", death as creative subject matter, his approach to songwriting, his interest in touring with CANNIBAL CORPSE and the strength of the current death metal scene. You can stream the 27-minute interview below.
"Seed Of Filth", the new video from SIX FEET UNDER, can be viewed below. The clip was filmed on October 31 at Gasoline Alley in Largo, Florida with director Mario D. Framingheddu, who previously worked with the group on the videos for "Ghosts of the Undead" and "Doomsday".
"This is one of our favorite songs from the album, one we are just really stoked on," says Chris Barnes. "We're really proud of this video and how it came out."
