SLAYER Fan In Critical Condition Following Fall At METALTOWN Festival

July 1, 2007

A 22-year-old man is in critical condition after jumping from a bridge during SLAYER's headlining show at the Metaltown festival in Gothenburg, Sweden late Saturday night (June 30),according to GT.

The Göta Älv bridge (photo),which runs over the river of the same name, is located just opposite the main stage and a lot of people stand on the bridge and watch the performances from a distance.

SLAYER was about an hour into its show when the 22-year-old man and a friend stripped down to their underwear. As the crowd cheered on, the two counted down and were about to jump off when one of them decided not to go through with the "joke" and watched as his friend hurled himself from the 30-meter-high bridge. When the jumper didn't resurface, his friend screamed for someone to call the emergency number 112. The jumper was later found unconcious in the water and medical personnel performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on him. He was rushed to the emergency room and is currently in critical condition.

"It was a horrible experience. People were standing there crying after it had happened," a witness tells GT.

Earlier that night, several other people also jumped from the bridge. It is unclear if any of them sought medical attention.

In addition to SLAYER, Metaltown featured performances by MACHINE HEAD, MASTODON, ENTOMBED, ILL NINO, MARDUK, MESHUGGAH and CANDLEMASS, among others.
