SLAYER's KERRY KING Bashes DAVE MUSTAINE, Praises DIMEBAG DARRELL

December 15, 2004

SLAYER guitarist Kerry King recently spoke to Abrasive Rock about his "feud" with MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine and his thoughts on the murder of his good friend, DAMAGEPLAN/ex-PANTERA guitarist "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott. A couple of excerpts from the interview follow:

Abrasive Rock: There've been many stories lately in the media with regard to your comments about Dave Mustaine. What really started the whole feud?

Kerry King: I don't know. It's funny how it comes back to me and Mustaine. You'd be hard pressed to find anyone in the media that even likes that guy. I'm just a vocal dude, so somebody always comes back and asks, 'what's up with you and him?' Nothing's up with it. The guy's just a prick, you know? And anybody with half a sac would tell you the same thing. Fuck, shit, total ass, he's an odd guy — fuck him. He's a fucking douche bag. Let him talk long enough and he'll bury himself. I wish he wasn't such a dickhead, because I'd like to admire him again, you know?

Abrasive Rock: I guess the last question I've got for you is, the recent thing with Dimebag and his senseless murder. What are your thoughts on that?

Kerry King: My thoughts on that? Do I wish it didn't happen? Of course. Do I wish I could have shot the fucker that shot him. Fuck yeah. I just wish the guy could have been alive long enough so we could all figure out what the fuck happened and why this went down. I think unfortunately, one of the nicest dudes you know.. I could think of a million people that would want to take me out before Dime. But all you need is that one whacko that fucking pulls it off. It's unfortunate. Tons of riffs that we'll never be able to fucking hear that he would have fucking graced us with.

Abrasive Rock: How do you think this is going to change the state of metal as it was?

Kerry King: More security. Stuff like this, now everybody's going to get wanded going into any club. Fucking idiotic acts like this fuck up everybody. Now everybody's got to wait out in the rain while people are getting wanded to come into any show, not just our show. You've got to take stupid precautions. I really think it's an isolated incident, unless you get somebody that wants to copycat it somehow? And that's what people like us are going to worry about. If there's going to be a barrage of people picking off metal guitar players, yeah. But this guy obviously had issues. So unless somebody's going to copycat. We're not altering our show or how we do things. We're not hiring out bodyguards, unless something else happens. Then shit, we'll pay a bodyguard. I don't think of us as people like that. Just ourselves, and we're out there signing shit all the time. I think hopefully nothing else happens."
