SLIPKNOT Has 'Hundreds Of Ideas' For Next Album, Says SHAWN 'CLOWN' CRAHAN
March 6, 2017SLIPKNOT percussionist Shawn "Clown" Crahan says that the band has "hundreds of ideas" for the follow-up to 2014's ".5: The Gray Chapter". That disc was released following a six-year hiatus during which founding SLIPKNOT bassist Paul Gray died and original drummer Joey Jordison was dismissed.
SLIPKNOT's touring cycle in support of ".5: The Gray Chapter" ended in November, with singer Corey Taylor returning to his other band STONE SOUR this year.
In a brand new interview with Candace of the Q103 radio station in Albany, New York, Crahan stated about SLIPKNOT's current status (hear audio below): "We're writing some new SLIPKNOT music. It's gonna be a long while [before it's released]. We just got off the road. We're gonna take some time. Other people, like Corey, he's doing STONE SOUR, other people are doing other things. Some of us are getting together to jam and write some music for the new album. And we also have a lot of music from the last three years. We took a recording system with us out on the road, and about every other day some good stuff would come. So we have hundreds of ideas floating around that need to be brought together and flushed out and worked through the way we work 'em through, which is jam 'em — we don't rely on computers and garbage like that; we write the music and jam the music. So we've been doing it one way for twenty years, which is tour, take time off, have pressure while you do it. Now, we're gonna still do that, but we decided on the time off, why not make an effort, get together and continue writing. We're really enjoying writing right now. It's been a while since we felt this way. But I'm choosing to take a breath and get some things done that we've never done and enjoy writing with my friends. So that's what we're doing."
Crahan said in a 2015 interview that he would love to see the band record a double concept album in the vein of PINK FLOYD's "The Wall" and THE BEATLES' "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band".
".5: The Gray Chapter" sold around 132,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to land at position No. 1 on The Billboard 200 chart. The CD arrived in stores in October 2014 via Roadrunner.
Gray died in 2010 from a drug overdose, while Jordison was let go in December 2013, just before SLIPKNOT began recording the last album.
