SOIL Bassist: We Are Flattered That DROWNING POOL Cover Our Songs Live

November 12, 2007

SOIL bassist Tim King has released a statement to BLABBERMOUTH.NET in response to DROWNING POOL's new single, "Enemy", which features lyrics that address the "scathing, underhanded" comments made by ex-SOIL singer Ryan McCombs' former bandmates following his transition to DROWNING POOL.

Stated King: "Considering the comments from SOIL [that inspired the DROWNING POOL song 'Enemy'] were made in July 2005, it is very old news. It's been over two years and we don't hold any animosity towards Ryan nor DROWNING POOL any longer. What is done is done. If they feel they need to write songs about SOIL, then that is just flattering, not insulting. They even play SOIL songs in their live show. Again, we are flattered that they are still into SOIL and cover our songs live. We wish them all the best!! Thanks guys!"

In a July 2005 online posting, King stated about McCombs, "DROWNING POOL can have him. Good luck. They should have taken AJ Cavalier [current SOIL singer] when they had the chance. Now we have the better singer and the better band."

King added, "When I hear a certain ex-singer of ours saying how close he was to Dave [Williams, late DROWNING POOL singer] when he never even knew him properly or liked his album and THEN join that band when he said those shoes were too big to fill and never would do that is just plain wrong, in my opinion."

"Enemy" provides fans with a unique insight to lead singer Ryan McCombs' feelings towards his former bandmates in SOIL, with lyrics like "Deep inside realize never wanna be your enemy."

The video for "Enemy", DROWNING POOL's second single off their third album, "Full Circle" (Eleven Seven Music) and a follow-up to their single "Soldiers", can be viewed below. The album was produced by longtime friend Ben Schigel (CHIMAIRA, WALLS OF JERICHO),and features a collaboration track with MÖTLEY CRÜE's Nikki Sixx and BEAUTIFUL CREATURES' DJ Ashba.
