SOILENT GREEN: Riff Lesson

July 24, 2008

MetalKult.com has just posted an extensive video interview and riff lesson with SOILENT GREEN guitarist Brian Patton.

The footage was filmed at MetalKult's Manhattan headquarters on June 25, 2008, when SOILENT GREEN came to New York City to play the Nokia Theatre (with DETHKLOK and CHIMAIRA) in support of its latest album, "Inevitable Collapse In the Presence of Conviction" (Metal Blade).

In part one of the two-part lesson, the ex-EYEHATEGOD, current SOILENT GREEN guitarist weighs in on his role in creating the NOLA (New Orleans, Louisiana) metal sound, the roots of SOILENT GREEN's riffs, his use of chord sliding and how to build a song out of many different, non-repeating sections.

Part two shows Patton demonstrating how to play some riffs from a variety of SOILENT GREEN tracks, such as "Antioxidant", "13 Days a Weak", "In the Same Breath" and "Sewn Mouth Secrets".

Check out the footage in two parts: Part#1, Part#2.
