SOUNDSCAN Report: ARCH ENEMY, NEVERMORE, DOPE, FLOTSAM AND JETSAM, A PERFECT MURDER

Swedish/German extreme metallers ARCH ENEMY sold just under 12,000 copies of their latest album, "Doomsday Machine", in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 87 on next week's The Billboard 200 chart.

The following are notable heavy metal/hard rock U.S. sales debuts for the week ending August 2, 2005, as reported by Nielsen SoundScan (at SoundScan's request, all figures are rounded to the nearest thousand, except numbers under 1,000, which are rounded to the nearest hundred; The Billboard 200 chart position included, where applicable):

ARCH ENEMY – "Doomsday Machine": 12,000 (#87)
DOPE - "American Apathy": 9,000
NEVERMORE - "This Godless Endeavor": 5,000
A PERFECT MURDER - "Strength through Vengeance": 2,000
FLOTSAM AND JETSAM - "Dreams of Death": 600

FLOTSAM AND JETSAM drummer Craig Nielsen commented on the early sales reports: "According to Caroline Distribution, 'Dreams of Death' is outselling two bands on Ozzfest second stage, and a well-known band on Gigantour. Granted, those records have been out longer, but they are on huge tours and should be consistantly selling pretty big. It could just be some good luck opening, but we actually moved up two positions on their top 50 sellers in a week, from #17 to #15. Canada sold out of their first order, Europe has ordered twice as many as usual. Go to www.carolinedist.com, then click on top sellers, then overall top 50. Flots 'till ####ing death!!!!!!!!!!!!"

He went on to make a slight correction to this first statement: "Actually, on the top 50 chart (for Caroline),they are listed in alphebetical order for some reason, however our label has been told by Caroline that we are selling beyond their expectation and has already begun a second pressing. We were also told that we were outselling some bands on big tours although they have not specifically named the bands directly to us. But by any measure, it looks like the fans and press have identified more with this record than the last few."
