SPEAKERS FOR THE DEAD Guitarist Succumbs To Cancer

December 20, 2006

SPEAKERS FOR THE DEAD, a Fresno, California-based band that combines heavy metal, hard rock and brutal hardcore with alternate singing and shouting, has issued the following statement:

"It is with an extremely heavy heart that we write this, but our brother Jason Garcia (guitarist for GRYP and SPEAKERS FOR THE DEAD) lost his fight against cancer at around 3:00 a.m. Tuesday morning, December 19, 2006. Many around the world that he touched with his music will miss him. He had a kind heart and rarely let anything bother him. Even when cancer sunk its talons into him, engulfing his entire body physically, he never faltered mentally. He was an exceptional musician and person. His overwhelmingly grueling and painful ordeal is now over. We have all been scarred by this 11-month long torture. We will surely miss you, brother, and will continue on in your memory."

SPEAKERS FOR THE DEAD's debut album, "Prey for Murder", was released in the U.S. in May 2006 by Magna Carta Records.
