'Station' Nightclub Owners To Start Education Fund

July 19, 2007

The Associated Press reports that the owners of a nightclub where a fire killed 100 people are launching a fund to help pay education costs for the more than 75 children who lost a parent in the blaze, a partner in the fund said Friday.

Club owners Jeffrey and Michael Derderian are leading The Station Education Fund, along with Jody King — a childhood friend who lost his own brother in the fire — and the three men's wives, King said.

The Feb. 20, 2003 fire at the West Warwick club began when pyrotechnics for the rock band GREAT WHITE ignited flammable soundproofing foam that the Derderians had installed around the stage. Besides the 100 people killed, more than 200 others were injured.
