STRATOVARIUS Guitarist Launches New Recording Studio

July 10, 2004

STRATOVARIUS mastermind Timo Tolkki has opened a brand-new recording studio called Goldenworks. Located 10 minutes outside central Helsinki, Goldenworks is currently hosting Finland's DREAMTALE, who are in the process of recording their third album for Spinefarm Records with Tolkki producing.

Commented Tolkki: "I have been in music business for 20 years, travelled around the world with STRATOVARIUS for 12 years. I have met a lot of interesting people and I find the atmosphere of studio work fascinating.

"I am always on the quest for that perfect sound. I've had studios before and paid my dues [throughout the] early '90s recording around 400 demos and records.

"Since then I have produced 12 STRATOVARIUS albums and together with Mikko Karmila, we created a sound that is imitated quite a lot in the current power metal scene. I have also produced 2 solo albums, 'Classical Variations and Themes' and 'Hymn To Life'.

"Since getting older, my musical taste has broadened (without any disrespect for metalheads, I still love metal) and today I would describe myself 'a music lover'.

"To me music has no 'moral boundaries' and I don't think it should have. When I am producing or mixing a band, I am always thinking what is this band/artist all about.
What is the core idea? Where is the heart of the music?

"Now by opening this studio, I am bringing with me all I have learned about music, producing and mixing.

"I am open for any kind of musical styles and projects."
