Swedish Death Metallers MALEFICIO Sign With APOLLON RECORDS

August 11, 2009

Sweden's MALEFICIO has signed with Apollon Records for the release of its sophomore album "Go To Hell". The band is currently in the studio recording the vocals and the remaining solo guitar parts, and it is anticipated that everything, including the mixing and mastering, will be finished by the end of August, ready for an autumn release.

Playing strongly riff-orientated powerhouse death metal, MALEFICIO was started in 1990 by vocalist Dan Soxx (formerly of EXITUS and ex-session member of PAGAN RITES) and drummer PTR (ex-THE HATRED, EMMA VARG). Taking their inspiration from a wide range of metal acts, and blending all the different styles to form their own trademark sound, the band eventually settled on the name MALEFICIO from the Jack Nicholson movie of the same name, and its definitive lineup came into being in 2008, when the four-piece — guitarist Mike (ex-MNEMONIC) and former ARCHANGEL bassist Goat having previously joined the two founding members — became a five-piece with the arrival of rhythm guitarist Big Tore (ex-GRIEF OF EMERALD).

MALEFICIO's debut album, "Under the Black Veil", was released in 2005 on the Colombian label Hateworks Records.

Regarding the band's decision to sign with Apollon, Soxx said, "It was great working with Hateworks, but we only signed for one record as we really wanted a label closer to home, so when Apollon took an interest in us, it was ideal. I grew up with acts like KISS, W.A.S.P. and MÖTLEY CRÜE, all of whom demonstrated that bands don't have to spend all their time up their own arses, but can entertain the fans and have fun themselves, whilst at the same time playing great music. I would definitely say those are the prime motivators that inspire MALEFICIO. And lots of beer, of course!"
